As you read this, hundreds of century-old trees are being cut and acres of forest are being burned to the ground.

Forest loss and degradation are major threats to Cerro Chucantí. Deforestation threatens the unique and endemic wildlife species in the region, as well as the forested watershed that supplies a year-round supply of clean drinking water to nearby villages.

During our initial visits to Chucanti, we noticed that this unique, pristine forest was being destroyed at an alarming rate. We decided to do something urgent to stop this carnage, and began purchasing land from local farmers that would otherwise sell their lands to loggers and cattle ranchers.
